All Abilities Football Tournament brings players together

On Wednesday, 24 October 2018 we held an All Abilities Football Tournament at the ISF Sports Ground, Phnom Penh. This inclusive tournament brought together players with physical and intellectual disabilities as well as players living with HIV and is one of the few events of it’s kind in Cambodia which offers opportunities for youth with disabilities to play sport competitively.

Currently, our inclusive Football Programme is the widest-reaching grassroots football programme in the country, reaching almost 4,000 children and integrating almost 350 players with a wide range of disabilities. We have increased access to sports for children and youth with disabilities by delivering football coaching sessions, holding games and activities tailored to their needs.

People with disabilities are often excluded from Cambodian society and rarely have access to education and sport. Participating in our regular training sessions and in our tournaments offer these marginalised players opportunities to fit in, to feel part of a team and to feel supported.  Wednesday’s tournament proved to be a lot of fun for all involved and helped players to build on key skills such as confidence, teamwork and communication

We’d like to thank the FIFA Foundation and all of our other supporters for making events like this tournament possible. In order to provide opportunities to a wide range of disadvantaged and marginalised children and youth around the country, we also work in partnership with more than 50 other local non-profits, schools and organisations.
