Staff Spotlight: Promoting good health and well-being

This week marks National Nurses Week and we’d like to take the opportunity to thank our own nurses here at ISF Cambodia who are committed to the good health and well-being of all our students.
A typical day for a nurse here at our schools can involve a little bit of everything from providing health checkups and vaccinations to teaching healthcare lessons to checking all our students are brushing their teeth, washing their hands and eating the nutritious meals that we provide.
For Leakhena, head nurse at ISF Stung Meanchey, seeing the health of our students improve is the highlight of her work. Leakhena decided at the age of 12 that she wanted to become a nurse after seeing a lack of healthcare facilities in the province where she’s from when her grandmother fell ill.
Leakhena joined ISF as an assistant nurse in 2014 and quickly worked her way up to become head nurse in 2016. Today she is also working as a counselor in the school after completing additional training last year. Seeing a child’s behavior or state of mind improve as well as their physical health brings Leakhena and her team a lot of joy.
At ISF, we believe that every child has the right to good health and well-being and we’re very grateful to our team of nurses who are working to achieve this.
