The seventh Barclays-ISF Girls Football Tournament was  held on February the 20th, 2016 at ISF Sports Ground, Phnom Penh. Following the success of Deaf Football Tournament in December 2015, the girls tournament, which attracted 24 teams from Phnom Penh and 8 provinces in Cambodia and more than 1,300 attendants, was an amazing day full of fun and joy, which promoted friendship and teamwork.

Following tough competitions all day, Samrong High School 1 (Andrew Riddick) emerged as a strong team with the best defense which remained undefeated from the round robin to the final. At the final, the team beat the Barclays-sponsored Chak Kropop Po Mankol and was crowned as the tournament winner to take home the cup for the very first time ever since their participation in the football programme.

The day also hosted two-hour long events for 90 players with intellectual disabilities from partner organizations in Kandal province and Phnom Penh. Our sponsors Barclays also joined in on the fun, playing friendlies against PWC and KPMG teams in the afternoon.

It was a fantastic day of organized sports for Cambodian girls that promoted friendship and sportsmanship for supporters and players alike. The day also gave a lot of smile and laughter to players with intellectual disabilities, their parents and leaders.

The Indochina Starfish Foundation (ISF) has been running a grassroots Football Programme since 2006, when it started out with just 50 players. Thanks to support from Barclays over the past 6 years, the tournament has grown from strength to strength with over 3,800 players benefitting from competitive football, fun and the development of vital life skills today. We would like to express our big thanks to Barclays for their support in helping us make events like these a fixture of the Cambodian grassroots football scene.
