October 18 was a milestone day for ISF. We were proud to host Leadership Program Class 8  (LP 8) Excellent Team – an innovative group of Cambodian leaders, entrepreneurs and CEOs who are committed to lifting up Cambodian society even as they push its economy forward. More than 50 members of the group visited our Steung Meanchey education centre and participated in an afternoon of classroom activities and played football with our students, before donating a package of educational supplies worth almost $25,000 to support our students. 

“We are grateful for any support we receive,” said Vicheka Chourp, ISF Country Manager. “Though it is something special when it is fellow Cambodians who recognise the impact our work makes for children from disadvantaged backgrounds. This was a historic day; we have never received such a large group of Cambodian visitors wanting to help us. This has been a difficult year and we have been hit by many funding problems, but seeing this generosity and social conscience in action gives us a lot of hope for Cambodia’s future.”

The group first learnt of ISF’s education and sport work through a member of the Phnom Penh Crown Football Club. We’ve collaborated with the celebrated  club through our football leagues and tournaments.

The LP 8 Excellent Team members were split into separate groups and then guided by ISF students around our classrooms to observe our amazing teachers at work. A highlight of the tour was when some of the visitors helped our students solve some difficult Maths problems.

The real fun began after lunch when the visitors formed four football teams to play in a mini-tournament. The team called “Chelsea” won the trophy.

At the end of the visit, the LP 8 Excellent Team confirmed they would donate 50 bicycles, 50 tablets and study materials, uniforms, bags, and shoes to our students. This support is incredibly valuable to us at a time when both we as an organization and our students’ families are all struggling financially as a result of COVID-19.

Most importantly, they all pledged to remain active in supporting ISF in the future. “We really hope to maintain a good relationship with LP 8 Excellent Team ” said Vicheka. “It’s not just about donations, it’s also that they can inspire our students through their achievements, and perhaps provide opportunities to our graduates once they enter the workforce. Seeing home-grown success stories is very important to young Cambodians, and we are honoured that LP 8 Excellent Team chose us as an NGO they wanted to share their knowledge, skills and generosity with.”
