Most children who join ISF have never been to school before or have had to drop out to help support their families. When they come to ISF, they are behind compared to their peers. ISF enrolls them in the Catch-up Programme, enabling them to study two grades in one year and ‘catch up’ to the appropriate grade for their age. Once the have caught up, they are integrated into government-run state schools.

The students on the Catch-up Programme have been studying Khmer, social sciences, maths and science, core subjects in the government curriculum, for six months. In May, they were tested in all subjects to monitor their academic progress before moving them to the next grade.

Of the 212 Catch-up Programme students who took the exams across our two education centres, 89% passed and progressed to the next grade. Twenty-two students failed and will be offered extra classes for eight hours at the weekends, before being re-tested in two months.
