ISF brings Coach Development Courses to Siem Reap

ISF brings Coach Development Courses to Siem Reap

Hot on the heels of the culmination of the ISF-AIA Youth League 2018/19, four of our coaches –  Panha, Channa, Makara and Thanin – traveled to Siem Reap Province to lead a football coach training workshop to teach others how to use football as a tool to create positive social change. This workshop was the third in a series of workshops from our pilot outreach project to empower coaches in rural areas to provide access to sport and learning to socially disadvantaged children in Cambodia.

The workshop, which ran for five days ( 11-15 June 2019) was held at Bayon Secondary School located approximately 15k from Siem Reap’s town centre. During the workshop, 51 participants received training in using football for social impact – structured by methodologies developed by Coaches Across Continents (CAC), a global leader in the field of sport for social impact training. Participants learned how to deliver social impact football training using games and activities; engaging children in locally relevant social issues such as gender equality, disability and social inclusion, drug and alcohol abuse, gambling, education and health.

Our coaches are planning to select some participants to join our new ISF Outreach Coach Programme, so that they can share the knowledge they will receive from us further to their community and ensure the sustainability of our inclusive programme. Based on our survey conducted before and after the training, we were pleased to discover that the participants learned a lot from the training and were enthusiastic to share their new knowledge with others.

Throughout the course of this proposed pilot project, we expect 20 ISF – supported coaches to run 480 outreach sessions, reaching approximately 500 socially deprived children and three coach development courses focusing on social impact through football. It is anticipated that in addition to the 700 direct beneficiaries of this project, there will be up to 3,000 indirect beneficiaries

We would like to thank The UEFA Foundation for Children for their support of this project. Collectively, through building strong institutions and partnerships for global goals, we are creating opportunities for children marginalised by extreme poverty to build brighter futures.
