Close of the Barclays – ISF Youth League 2014-2015
The Barclays- ISF Youth League 2014-2015, which launched in late November 2015, came to a successful end on May 17th, 2015 at the National Institute of Physical Education & Sports, Phnom Penh. This year’s league ran for 15 weeks and was bigger than ever with 65 teams participating, up from 52 teams last season. It provided fun and joy to hundreds of disadvantaged children and to their communities.
The round robin competitions started in December 2014 and ran smoothly for 13 weeks. The 4 top teams from each of the five different age divisions battled it out in the semi-final in early May. This year, some non-sponsored teams showed their strength and were able to reach the league finals. Among these star teams were 1 boys team and 2 girls teams from ISF Steung Meanchey.
On the hotly contested final day, all the teams, especially the ones competing for the championship, were very excited about the games. Supporters from Phnom Penh, Kampong Speu and Kandal province gathered to cheer on their teams. Following a tense round of final matches, the winners of each division were announced. In the U14 Boys Champion League ILC won their first title, while Scherini F.C (ASPECA) defended theirs and repeated as champions in the Premier League. League first-timers Komar Pichpov Samnang surprisingly became the winner of the U10 Boys division and two of The Flying Tigers (ISF SMC Girls) won the U14 and U18 Girls divisions. Chourp Vicheka observed, “The incredible sportsmanship on display today shows just much the league has grown. It is inspiring to see these teams and their supporters come together for a day filled with laughter and the spirit of football.”
In conclusion, the Barclays – ISF Youth League 2014-2015 was a big success, it was especially great to see so many new teams participating. None of this would be possible without the support of Barclays in and all the football team sponsors – thank you! A big thanks also to the ISF football staff for their efforts to keep the league growing from year to year.
