AIA-ISF Grand Championship Ignited AIA Stadium in Phnom Penh
The AIA – ISF Grand Championship electrified AIA Stadium, in Phnom Penh on Sunday 4th June 2023. This remarkable event, which marks the culmination of Cambodia’s widest grassroots football league for children from disadvantaged backgrounds, showcased the incredible talent and resilience of young athletes who have overcome great adversity. Organised by ISF in partnership with AIA Cambodia, it provided a platform for young talents from throughout the country to shine while promoting inclusivity and empowering communities. 144 youth athletes from 12 championing teams from Phnom Penh and Kampong Thom Province across different age divisions: U10 Boys and Girls, U14 Boys and Girls, U16 Boys and U18 Girls gathered to compete for first and second places.
The AIA-ISF Grand Championship brought together the winners from Phnom Penh and Kampong Thom, who emerged victorious in the league. These teams battled it out on the field, displaying their skills, teamwork, and passion for the sport. The intensity of the matches captivated spectators and served as a testament to the transformative power of football.
“At ISF, we believe in the importance of nurturing young talents and empowering disadvantaged communities,” stated Vicheka Chourp, ISF Chief Executive “Through the AIA-ISF Grand Championship, we aim to inspire and support children from disadvantaged backgrounds, giving them a chance to showcase their abilities on a grand stage. We firmly believe in the potential of sports to bring about positive change and create a brighter future for all.”
AIA and ISF remain dedicated to supporting the development of grassroots sports in Cambodia. The AIA-ISF Grand Championship serves as a testament to this commitment, providing a transformative platform for disadvantaged children to flourish, both on and off the field. The tournament also signifies the organisations’ joint efforts to build stronger communities and promote a culture of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance.
Khemara*, one of the football players ISF support stated: “Thanks to the AIA-ISF Youth League I have discovered the true power of football both on and off the pitch. On the field, football has taught me the value of teamwork, perseverance, and discipline. It has given me a sense of purpose and allowed me to channel my energy into something positive. Off the pitch, football has opened doors for me. It has provided me with opportunities to meet new people, make lifelong friends, and be a part of a supportive community. Football has shown me that no matter where you come from, you can overcome challenges and achieve your dreams. It has given me hope, self-confidence, and a belief in my own potential. I am grateful for the opportunity to play and thrive.”
