In May, students from tChamps, a student-led initiative by Tembusu College, National University of Singapore, flew to Phnom Penh to run a four-day workshop with our older students who had the opportunity to share ideas and develop their communication and critical-thinking skills. Furthermore, they learnt more about SWOT analysis, budget management and proposal writing. ISF students have already applied their new skills and worked on a community project proposal with the help of the ISF Employment Programme Coordinator. We loved their project so much that we decided to put it into practice.

Eight ISF high school students have started a student-led initiative called ‘Building a culture of reading in the children in our communities’. Every Sunday, these students borrow 30-40 books from ISF’s school libraries and visit villages in Stung Meanchey to promote literacy and organise reading-related activities such as reading aloud, storytelling, free reading, games, educational and creative activities. These sessions are often complemented by awareness-raising talks on key topics such as nutrition, hygiene and personal care.

Our mission is to help our students become world changers, giving them the opportunity to give back. We are so proud of each and every one of them for applying the lessons they have learnt and sharing and bringing changes through literacy back to the community.
